Day Twenty Five

Crossy | Bungendore – Wollongong | 223km – 2005m.

Second last day – hopefully!

As per the last 24 days, I set off early to chip away at the kilometres till I can get off the bike and hug my family.

I had a reasonable day planned, 230 ish km that would see me reach Wollongong by a decent hour before it was dark. About 50km in I snapped a cable – a fairly important component when cycling.

Luckily I have some great friends in the Goulburn Cycle Club that I called on and managed to hitch a ride there to get the bike sorted. Rod, Lynette & Cam Roberts came to my rescue. Legend family that are always willing to help others.

The legend Robbie Dorsett sorted the cable and I was back in business!

I met dot watcher Neil in Wingello!

Wayne Bensley from the Goulburn Cycle Club met me en route as well.

I finally made Wollongong after just over 2000m of climbing and loved having Georgie, Graham and Jonah for sharing Vietnamese dinner with me and taking me to Woolworths to sort breakfast. Thanks guys!

The hotmix through here, after 5300km of some fairly rough surfaces was absolutely gold and worthy of a pic for sure!

My last night, yep I’m wrecked!

Can’t wait to see everyone at the Opera House tomorrow. I have a few mates riding with me along the way tomorrow, including Jacob (PBP), who’s returned to Sydney to ride with me. It’s been a while since I’ve seen his face too, will be awesome to compare stories and debrief on a wild ride IPWR has been.

STATE OF THE NATION – DAY TWENTY FIVE

Congrats to team TCG on making the finish today – Luke Jeffery, Dominic Shepherd, Myfanwy Peebles and Jennifer Filby. I rode a fair bit with the first team member Luke and got to know him pretty well, so well done. Also to Haydn who finished later tonight. For a while there I was thinking I could catch you! But your ever consistent dot never waivered. Congratulations on finishing #2, what an awesome achievement!

Not much between the finish and myself now. Just 135km – see you all tomorrow!
